How image compression works
The browser decodes your selected image and re-encodes it using the chosen format and quality. JPEG and WebP quality settings can reduce file size; PNG is lossless and may not become smaller.
Compression results depend on the image content, dimensions and selected format. Animated images and some specialized formats may not be preserved.
