Common Etsy seller fees

Costs may include listing and renewal fees, transaction fees, country-specific payment processing, Offsite Ads, currency conversion, regulatory operating fees and taxes on seller fees. Not every charge applies to every seller.

Calculate profit per order

Begin with item revenue and shipping collected. Subtract discounts, product cost, fulfilment, packaging, transaction fees, payment processing, listing charges and attributable advertising. Sales tax collected for authorities should not be treated as ordinary product revenue.

Etsy fees explained: listing, transaction and payment processing

Etsy costs are made up of several separate charges. A listing fee is charged when you publish or renew a listing, whether or not it sells. The transaction fee applies to the order amount, including shipping and gift wrap where charged. Etsy Payments processing is an additional country-specific percentage plus a fixed amount.

Advertising and cross-border costs

Offsite Ads fees may apply to attributed orders under Etsy's eligibility and participation rules. Etsy Ads are a separate optional advertising cost. Currency conversion, regulatory operating fees, deposit fees, shipping labels, seller taxes and one-time shop setup charges may apply depending on your location and account. Do not assume every seller pays every fee.

Worked estimate

For illustration, a US seller has a $40 item and $5 shipping order, with no sales tax or advertising. At a 6.5% transaction rate, 3% + $0.25 payment processing assumption, and one $0.20 listing charge, the modeled fees total $4.725 before any other charges. Actual processing is based on the fee rules and country shown in your Etsy account.

Calculate the real order margin

  1. Start with item and shipping revenue; keep sales tax separate from revenue.
  2. Subtract seller-funded discounts, product landed cost and postage.
  3. Subtract the transaction fee, payment processing and listing renewal or multi-quantity fees.
  4. Allocate advertising, packaging, currency conversion and other applicable costs.
