Amazon Seller & FBA Fee Guide
Estimate Amazon referral fees, FBA fulfilment, storage and unit profit with an independent calculator.
Amazon unit economics can include referral fees, fulfilment, storage, inbound freight, prep, advertising, returns and selling plan costs. Use the Amazon FBA Profit Calculator to organize these expenses and estimate per-unit contribution.
Amazon costs to include
Referral fees vary by category and may have minimums or tiers. FBA fulfilment depends on product dimensions and shipping weight. Storage, inbound placement, prep, transportation, plan allocation, ads and returns can materially change profit.
Estimate FBA contribution
Use net sales excluding sales tax, then subtract referral and fulfilment fees, landed product cost, inbound freight, storage allocation, advertising and expected return costs. Compare with merchant-fulfilled costs when relevant.

Amazon seller fees: referral, FBA and monthly plan costs
Amazon's standard selling costs include a selling plan and a category-based referral fee. The Individual plan is charged per item sold; the Professional plan is a monthly subscription. Referral fees vary by category and may use tiers or a minimum amount, so a single generic percentage can materially misstate the cost.
FBA costs are separate from referral fees
Fulfillment by Amazon can add fulfillment charges based on the product's size and shipping weight, monthly storage, aged-inventory surcharges and other program-specific charges. Inbound placement, transportation, prep, labeling, removals, returns processing and low-inventory-level fees may also matter. Use the current fee preview for the exact dimensions, weight, category and fulfillment channel.
Worked unit-economics example
Assume a $30 sale, $8 landed product cost, $4.50 FBA fulfillment, $0.40 storage allocation, $1.50 inbound freight and $2 advertising. If the category referral fee were 15%, the referral charge would be $4.50 and modeled contribution before other costs would be $9.10. This is only an example; category minimums, tiered rates and actual FBA fees may differ.
FBA versus merchant fulfillment
Compare the full per-order cost, not just the visible fulfillment fee. Merchant fulfillment may replace FBA charges with postage, packaging, labor, returns handling and customer-service time. Include storage and cash tied up in inventory when comparing methods.
