eBay Seller Tools & Fee Guide
Estimate eBay selling fees and order profit with an independent seller calculator.
Estimate the cost of an eBay order before setting a price. The eBay Fee & Profit Calculator lets you enter item price, buyer-paid shipping, sales tax, product cost, postage, packaging and promoted listing rates.
What eBay fees should sellers include?
Consider the category-based final value fee, per-order fee, optional promoted listing charges, store subscription and other account-specific costs. The fee base can include parts of the total sale amount beyond the item price. Category exceptions and seller programs matter.
How to estimate net profit
Start with revenue excluding sales tax, then subtract marketplace fees, product landed cost, postage, packaging, advertising and other variable expenses. Keep sales tax separate from revenue and confirm how it is treated in the fee base for your transaction.

eBay fee breakdown: what changes the final value fee?
For most categories, eBay's published US fee table currently shows a percentage on the first portion of the sale amount and a lower percentage above the applicable threshold. Category exceptions and Store subscription discounts can change the result. The per-order charge is separate: the current published schedule distinguishes orders of $10 or less from orders above $10. Check the fee table for the category and seller program that apply to your listing.
Understand the fee base
The final value fee is not simply a percentage of the item price. The total amount of the sale can include buyer-paid shipping, handling and sales tax. For sellers located in certain countries, eBay applies specific shipping rules; cross-border sellers should check the fee policy rather than assume the US domestic example applies.
Worked estimate
Suppose an order has a $50 item price and $5 buyer-paid shipping, before tax. If the applicable fee rate were 13.6% and the per-order fee were $0.40, the illustrative fee before tax-related fee-base effects would be $7.88. This is a teaching example, not a quote; promoted listings, category exceptions, Store discounts and tax can change the actual charge.
Other costs to include
- Insertion fees after any free listing allowance, listing upgrades and Store subscription.
- Promoted Listings Standard ad fees when an attributed sale occurs, plus any external advertising.
- International selling, currency conversion, returns, refunds and shipping label costs.
- Product landed cost, packaging, postage and a reserve for damaged or returned orders.
